My
Mountain Man is inspired by a shared pleasure of learning while
exploring, adventuring, and simple living in the wilds of Northern
California.
The base for My Mountain Man is located in eastern Humboldt County
high on the southwest flank of Buck Mountain. Close to the redwoods,
wild rivers, and high mountain wilderness areas were the possibilities
of adventures abound.
Francis Lake, leader of the adventures has been working, living,
and adventuring in the beautiful wilds of the west for over 25 years,
with extensive experience in the Sierra Nevada and the mountains
and coast of Northern California.
Making his home Yosemite National park in 1983 Francis spent the
next 13 years walking and exploring the Sierra Nevada. Taking up
rock climbing and it becoming an important part of his life, climbing
many of the major routes in the park. He worked for the Yosemite
Search & Rescue for 7 years, lead and assisted many Yosemite
Association backpack trips and volunteered for the national park
service backcountry.
Leaving the Park in 1994 Francis pursued his education by attending
college and spending summers as lead instructor on primitive walks
and mountaineering adventures.
Presently Francis Lake finds himself managing a small organic family
farm and homesteading. He always makes time for new adventures and
the enjoyment of sharing the vast knowledge of his wilderness experience
with others.
